Job Description
- Ensures cleaning and decontamination of equipment is followed according to recommended procedures.
- Processes instruments, equipment and supplies using appropriate methods of sterilization.
- Delivers and prepares instrumentation and surgical pack in an efficient manner.
- Ensures assembling, packing and wrapping of instruments is always practiced according to established aseptic techniques.
- Ensures that items for autoclaving are loaded into the trolley correctly.
- Familiarized with the documentation procedures related to sterilization. i.e. biological indicator monitoring, sterilization cycle records etc.
- Completes maintenance forms required for the repair of defective equipment.
- Adheres to department procedures for accurate monitoring, tracking and record keeping.
- Performs function tests in washers and sterilizers. i.e. Bowie-Dick test, biological monitoring.
- Reports a positive (+) biological test result done after 24 hours to the Infection Control Supervisor; this will be confirmed after performing two consecutive (+) positive tests in the sterilizers.
- Operates equipment and machines in CSSD safely and efficiently.
- Manages time and resources available in a cost-effective manner.
- Ensures to maintain a work area conducive for processing and handling items according to CSSD standards.
- Undertakes other duties as may be required, from time to time, assigned by the Director/or Supervisor of Infection Control.
- Aware of the standard precautions for infection control and implements the IC guidelines in his/ her day to day activities.
- Generates & submit reports about CSSD performance on monthly basis to the Infection Supervisor.
- Participates and supports quality improvement and patient safety activities as an individual or with multidisciplinary teams.
- Performs the duties necessary to support and achieve accreditation and assures that facility is in compliance with all government, local laws, and accreditation standards in relation to healthcare.
Skills
- Knowledge in Medical Procurement, storage and inventory control and the use of medical equipment either in single or combination.
- Knowledge of operating room procedures and aseptic technique.
- Knowledge in computerized inventory management.
- Basic knowledge of Infection Control principles related to cleaning, disinfection. and sterilization.
- Knowledge of internal and external regulations and procedures for collection, decontamination and sterilization of supplies, equipment and instruments.
- Knowledge of applicable sanitary, infection control, and safety standards sufficient to be able to perform assignments within safety parameters.
- Good verbal and written communication skills both Arabic and English.
- Organizational skills.
- Leadership skills, report and budget preparation.
- Bachelor's Degree in Science or any medical related field e.g. Microbiology, Biology .
